Joseph enlisted 15/07/1915 at Geelong as a single man
On enlistment Joseph was attached to the 11th Reinforcements to the 4th Light Horse Brigade training at Broadmeadows. Just prior to embarkation he became ill and was put into isolation. Joseph died from Cerebro Spinal Meningitis at the Alfred Hospital on 8 November 1915. He was buried at Mt. Duneed Cemetery.
