Pennyroyal School Honor Roll

Contributed by Janet Brien, Birregurra Historical Society

Location:  Pennyroyal Hall, Pennyroyal Station Road, Pennyroyal

The Public Hall was packed on Friday, December 21st last, the occasion being the unveiling of the local school and district Honor Roll. Much disappointment was felt at the unavoidable absence of Mr. Gibson, M.H.R , and Mr. McDonald, M.L.A., both of whom had promised to be present, but at the last moment found they could not do so. Both sent apologies, also Mr. Parker, inspector of schools for the district. The evening’s programme took the form of & concert and supper, the proceeds of which will go towards the school flower day fund. The first part of the concert was provided wholly by the school children, tutored by Mr. and Mrs. Maher. During the interval the Honor Board was unveiled by Mr. W. A. Mountjoy, president of the Shire of Winchelsea, who also presided at the concert. Mr. Mountjoy dwelt at some length on the doings of the boys at the war, and the splendid manner in which Pennyroyal and district had responded to the call. Mr. Edgar Mountjoy and Chaplain Love also spoke. The board contains26 names, four of whom mads the extreme sacrifice. A photograph of the board will appear in the. ‘News of the Week’ shortly.    Geelong Advertiser, 27 December 1919
