Soldiers Memorial Grandstand

Location: 70 Hopkins Streeet, Eastern Reserve, Winchelsea
After some controversy over the type of soldiers memorial to be built at Winchelsea, a grandstand on the football reserve was chosen despite the Returned Services League (RSL) wanting just clubroom for returned servicemen. The funds for the memorial which incorporated the RSL clubrooms underneath were raised by public donation .
Tender for the grandstand was accepted by the committee in February 1923 with an expected completion date in June 1923 at a cost of £700. Specifications were cut down to allow the concrete walled memorial to be built with the amount in hand and all carting was voluntary to help meet costs.
